Pismo Beach, CA

Music by George Strait - "Ocean Front Property".

This is the only picture I did not take myself. Notice the red X in the upper right beach area. My rig is parked just to the left of there over the sand dune. The upper back side of the treed area is the location of the Monarch grove. Highway 101 is the freeway in the background whereas Highway 1 runs along the beach just behind the treed area.

Entrance over the sand dune to the beach from my rig location. This pic makes a great background on my laptop.

Taken from the entrance to the Monarch grove. The beach is behind my rig.

The sun was shining so the Monarchs (more info) were everywhere on this warm afternoon in the grove. It's amazing that this time next winter the great, great, great grand children of these Monarchs will find their way to these very same trees, having migrated all the way from Canada and the western slopes of the Rockies, 2 to 3,000 miles away.

Note the decorations on the pier. Can you make out the Christmas tree all the way out on the end? One of my fun evenings was drinking warm cider during the official tree lighting ceremonies.

Great shot I was able to get of a fisherman at sunset on the very end of the pier.

The main street just off the pier. Lotsa nice shops, AND -- the Splash Cafe (great Clam Chowder)!

This sunset was taken on the evening of my birthday. One of my tests of digital photography has been my ability to do a sunset as well as I could with a film camera. I believe we're getting there. Though the weather was a bit cold, this was a nice few days in Pismo. I met some real nice folk, spent some quality time among the Monarch's, and befriended a super nice stray kitten that totally enjoyed the kitty chow I keep just for such creatures that let me share their campsite.

Enjoy . . .
